On October 5, 2018, East Los Angeles Station held a Gift for Guns program at Belvedere Park. This event allowed citizens to surrender firearms to the Sheriff's Department and, in return, receive gift certificate redeemable to Target or Ralph's Supermarket. 

The gift cards were provided with the help from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis for this great event. Deputies collected numerous guns, including several assault rifles, handguns, shotguns, and standard rifles. Those who turned in their guns stated that either they had no use for them, or feared the weapons could be stolen and used in violent crimes. 

All in all, it was a very successful event. East Los Angeles Station would like to thank the citizens who turned in the firearms. In addition, special thanks to the station volunteers and explorers willing to give up their Saturday to assist with this special event. Also to Ralph’s Supermarkets and Target for their generosity in donating the Gift Cards.
