2 Arrested After Shooting Shotgun in Front Yard

On Monday, October 15th, 2018 at approximately 7: 06 pm, the Anderson Police Department (APD) responded to a residence located in the 1600 block of Pinon Avenue for a report of several subjects in a verbal altercation. Additionally, reporting parties also heard what they believed to be a single gunshot. This residence is well known to APD for illegal activity.

Several APD Officers arrived on scene and encountered 7 subjects in the front yard who were detained. The investigation on scene revealed a verbal altercation took place between multiple people at the residence. During the verbal altercation, Donald Taylor-Killstrom, a 25 year old resident of Anderson, went inside the residence and retrieved a shotgun instead of calling for police assistance. Taylor-Killstrom went out to the front yard with the shotgun and fired a single round into the air. Some of the people involved in the altercation dispersed prior to law enforcement arrival.

A subsequent search of the residence revealed multiple firearms, ammunition, and numerous amounts of drug paraphernalia throughout the house. The residence was found to be in deplorable conditions with trash all over in the interior, backyard and a multitude of building code violations were observed. An example of some of the code violations were numerous fire hazards, illegal electrical wiring, and unauthorized structures. One example of the deplorable conditions was a refrigerator located in the garage area. Upon opening the refrigerator, Officers found the interior of the refrigerator to be almost completely covered in a thick layer of black mold with a putrid odor coming from it, due to rotting food.

Taylor-Killstrom’s father, Donald Killstrom, a 51 year old resident of Anderson was arrested for a felony violation of maintaining a residence for the purpose of using illegal drugs. Taylor-Killstrom was arrested for maintaining a residence for the purpose of using illegal drugs, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm; all felony violations. Jeannie Stephen, a 44 year old resident of Anderson, was cited and released on a misdemeanor warrant. All other people on scene were interviewed and released.

The Anderson Police Department worked in collaboration with the city’s Building Department and the Anderson Fire Department to assess the residence. The building inspector, code enforcement, and fire inspector found numerous code violations which resulted in the residence being “red tagged”; meaning it was uninhabitable. A local utilities company was called out and shut off the power and natural gas to the residence.
