LOCATION: 17800 Block of Santa Fe Trail, Helendale

SUSPECT: Toby Lee Stahlberg; 39 years of age, of Lenwood
Kent Borden Boulware; 53 years of age, of Helendale

SUMMARY:
On Monday, October 15, 2018, at approximately 5:57 A.M., deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station responded to a residence in the 17800 block of Santa Fe Trail to contact the owner of a vehicle that had been reported stolen in our jurisdiction on September 23, 2018. After the deputies arrived, they noticed marijuana plants within the residence. A records check of several vehicles parked on the property revealed they had previously been reported stolen to other agencies within the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

While authoring a search warrant for the residence, the deputies observed a blue Mercedes sedan entering the property. The vehicle left at a high rate of speed and failed to yield after the deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver finally stopped at Indian Trail near National Trails Highway and was identified as Toby Stahlberg, a convicted felon. Stahlberg was detained, a .357 revolver and ammunition were located inside the vehicle.

The search warrant was served at 9:35 AM with the assistance of the Marijuana Enforcement Team and the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT). Kent Boulware was contacted on the property and found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and a loaded shotgun. The stolen vehicles, suspected methamphetamine, ammunition, and marijuana plants were seized as evidence.

Stahlberg was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as failing to yield to a police officer and was booked at the Barstow Jail. Boulware was arrested via a citation at the scene for the illegal marijuana grow, possession of stolen vehicles, and being in possession of suspected methamphetamine with a loaded firearm.
