INCIDENT: Assault on Officer With Weapon, Possession of Narcotics While Armed

LOCATION: Interstate 15 & Foothill Boulevard, Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Gilbert Morales, 41 years old, resident of Adelanto
Norma Cerda, 30 years old, resident of Ontario


SUMMARY:
On Friday, October 12, 2018, at approximately 10:56 PM, a deputy from the Fontana Sheriff's Station attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Gray Infinity for a traffic violation. The Infinity failed to stop and made a sudden turn on a dead-end street. The vehicle quickly turned around and intentionally rammed the marked sheriff's unit head on several times. The deputy was able to identify the driver, and only subject in the vehicle, as Gilbert Morales. Morales drove away from the location of the assault and fled the area. Investigators began to search the area for the Infinity and Morales.

On Friday, October 19, 2018, at approximately 11:44 AM, members of the Specialized Enforcement Division (SWAT), located the Infinity on Interstate 15 being driven by a female, later identified as Norma Cerda. The Infinity was being followed by a Red Nissan compact vehicle driven by Gilbert Morales. As the two vehicles travelled together on Interstate 15, the Infinity began to have mechanical problems and pulled over. As they were examining the vehicle, Morales and Cerda were taken into custody without incident.

Morales was found to be in possession of a large amount of narcotics, cash and a stolen firearm. Cerda was also found to be in possession of a large amount of narcotics. Both were transported to the West Valley Detention Center where they were booked.
