On September 28, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., Cypress Police Officers were informed of an alleged sexual assault that occurred on August 31, 2018, in the vicinity of Cypress College. We take the reporting of any sexual assault very seriously and treat every victim with a tremendous amount of care and sensitivity.

In this case after a thorough investigation by our detectives, that included interviews with the victim and a look at all the evidence, it has been determined the alleged sexual assault never occurred. It is disappointing that someone would falsely report something like this and raise the level of fear on the campus and draw suspicion to an innocent person. Despite the results in this case our department wants to make certain that no one is ever dissuaded from reporting any sexual assault because they think they won’t be believed. That simply is not true. We would never dismiss the report unless our detectives were certain the information was false. A lot of hard work went into this case knowing the concern the campus community has and our desire to keep our students safe.
