The Madera Mariposa Merced CAL FIRE unit is planning a vegetation management training burn October 24th, and October 25th 2018. The training burn will take place on the Long ranch on Old Highway and Yaqui Gulch. The training will consist of burning 4 sections of annual grass, oak woodland and sparse brush, totaling about 95 acres. The burn will take place between the hours of 0900 and 1700 each day. Smoke will be visible throughout the day from many locations throughout Mariposa County.

The purpose of the burn is to train firefighting personnel in firing strategies and tactics. The management fire will also be used for range management by reducing noxious weeds increasing native grasses, and reducing fuel loading and ladder fuels.
