PEDESTRIAN FATALITY PRESS RELEASE
On 10/28/2018 at 9:24 PM, dispatchers at the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch center received multiple 9-1-1 calls in reference to a female subject walking in the middle of the left lane of the 500 block of S. IH-35E and dispatched Red Oak Police Department personnel to the scene to investigate. On 10/28/2018 at 9:31 PM, dispatchers received another call advising that the female subject had been struck by a vehicle at the same location and Red Oak Fire personnel and AMR Ambulance personnel were dispatched to the scene. On 10/28/2018 at 9:33 PM, Red Oak Police Personnel arrived on scene and started an investigation into the collision that occurred in the 500 block of S. IH-35E that resulted in the death of the pedestrian. Beverly Collins (49 YOA) of Waxahachie was a passenger in a vehicle that ran out of gas and had pulled onto the inside shoulder of the 500 block of S. IH-35E. The driver walked to a nearby gas station and left Beverly and another passenger inside the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the victim exited the vehicle for unknown reasons and was struck by a vehicle after she entered the lane of traffic. The pedestrian sustained life ending injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
