Another Arson Arrest by the Arroyo Grande Police Department Leads to a Conviction

On August 22, 2018, at approximately 0720 hours, Arroyo Grande Police Officers observed a plume of black smoke coming from the 1400 block of West Branch Street. Upon their arrival, they saw a large fire near the dumpsters located to the rear of R & R Furniture, 1450 West Branch Street. The hillside, pine trees, oak trees, and dry brush were fully involved and the fire was travelling up the hillside towards the hotels.

Upon further investigation, AGPD Officers located David Michael Bokar, 51 of Arroyo Grande, sitting to the west of the fire on West Branch Street. AGPD Officers conducted an interview and reviewed surveillance footage and concluded Bokar had been involved in the arson at R&R Furniture. AGPD Officers subsequently placed Bokar in custody for Penal Code Section 451 - Arson, and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

On October 24, 2018, Bokar plead “no contest” to; PC451(c) Arson of Structure/Forest Land (Felony) and was subsequently sentenced to 180 days in jail and 3 years’ formal probation.
