Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 11/06/2018 at approximately 2146 hrs, his office was called to the intersection of M62 and Hospital St, in Jefferson Township, Cass county Michigan, for a 2 car single roll over crash. 16yr old Cassopolis resident, Payton Schwindaman, was turning West onto Hospital St from M62 when she failed to yield the right of way for a Southbound vehicle driven by 16yr old Edwardsburg resident, Madisyn Philpot. The vehicle driven by Schwindaman was struck and left the road causing it to roll onto it's side. Philpot and her passenger, Cayden Calhoun of Edwardsburg, were transported by LifeCare Ambulance to Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor and it is believed that seat belts were worn by the drivers, but not the passenger. This case remains under investigation.
