Campbell PD make an arrest on bait bike theft.
Campbell, CA – On November 6, 2018, the Campbell Police Department arrested a suspect for stealing a bait bike at a residential complex.
In response to calls regarding thefts and burglaries, the Campbell Police Department has taken a new approach to addressing these crimes in our community with our Bait Program. The purpose of the Bait Program is to stop thieves in their tracks by using GPS tracking technology and to prevent future thefts from happening again.
On November 6, 2018, Campbell Police placed a bait bike at a residential complex by the Los Gatos Creek Trail. At approximately 1:50 pm, we received a notification the bait bike had been stolen.
Michael Powell, 40 year old transient, was quickly located by responding officers near 2435 S. Bascom Ave. in possession of the bike. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and burglary tools: a slide hammer, a battery operated cut-off wheel, and window punch. He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and is currently on probation for drug charges and possession of burglary tools.
Mr. Powell was arrested and taken into custody under the following charges: grand theft, possession of a concealed dagger, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of burglary tools.
Captain Berg assures, “this arrest could not have been made without our outstanding community partnerships. We will continue to work with our Campbell residents to place ‘bait packages’ at homes and businesses throughout the City. We are turning the tables on criminals and sending a clear message to potential thieves: Don’t come to Campbell to steal!”
