Criminal Activity Alert- Residential Burglary- Mohegan Trail- Set your Alarms- More info @
On Wednesday, November 7th, 2018 at approximately 5:50pm our patrol units were dispatched to a Mohegan Trail residence for an activated burglar alarm. Responding units discovered a rear patio glass door had been shattered in an attempt to gain entry to the residence. Due to the ringing alarm the actor(s) fled the scene prior to Patrols arrival.
We strongly encourage the use of Alarms systems. If you have an alarm system make sure you set it, even if you’re just running out for a few minutes. Security cameras are a great tool. Check your system now to make sure its functioning properly before an incident may happen. Its getting dark earlier and that can provide thieves the cover of darkness they like to operate. Adjust your light timers accordingly to illuminate your residence and deter an intruder.
Most crimes are prevented or criminals are caught when the public assists the Police by reporting suspicious persons and activity. Advise your neighbors as well to secure their homes and to report suspicious activity. The eyes and ears of the community are of great assistance in preventing and solving crimes.
Please report any suspicious activity immediately when it is observed.
Any suspicious activity can be reported to the police desk 201-327-5300 or by calling 9-1-1
The following tips may reduce your chances of becoming a victim;
Leave interior and exterior lights on to make your home appear occupied.
Leave a television or radio on inside your home.
Please remove jewelry and valuables from the bedrooms.
Remove safes from the master bedroom and their closets.
Lock ALL doors and windows. We find many unlocked doors.
Lock any unoccupied vehicles and remove the key fobs from them.
Remove mail and newspapers from your driveway the day they are delivered.
Secure any ladders on your property.
Remove any valuables from your vehicles.
This is only a small list of ideas to help deter an incident from happening. For additional information or assistance please call Saddle River Police headquarters anytime at 201-327-5300.
