Family Fight Turns Deadly in Denair

Denair, CA – Deputies were dispatched to a report of a stabbing on the 2800 block of Marazan Street in Denair shortly before 10 PM on Thursday night (11/8/18). As deputies were responding to the call, they were advised that the suspect and victim were both still inside the residence. The first deputy arrived on scene and the suspect, later identified as, Jason Schaefer 36 (Denair) exited the residence and was taken into custody.

Deputies entered the residence and found Gregory Schaefer 56 (Denair), deceased from a stab wound, inside the home. Jason Schaefer is the step-son of the victim, Gregory Schaefer. Detectives were called out to process the scene and Jason was booked at the Public Safety Center for homicide.

While being booked at the jail, Jason Schaefer became combative and assaulted several deputies causing injury. Additional charges were added for battery on a peace officer with injury. There is no booking photo available for Jason Schaefer at this time.
