HCSO Investigating Homicide in North Harris County. 
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at 5:32 a.m., deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office responded to an in progress call for service at a residence in the 3400 block of Meadow Hill Court in the Dove Meadows subdivision.
When deputies arrived they found a 53-year-old male had been shot to death. The male has now been identified as Brian Cannon Merritt.
Merritt’s 22-year-old son told Sheriff’s Office homicide investigators that his father was physically assaulting his mother, and that he shot his father to protect his mother.
No arrests have been made at this time. Once the investigation is completed, the evidence will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
Merritt is a former deputy with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, serving from December 1989 until March 2017.
His last duty assignment was providing hospital security under the Criminal Justice Command.
