Noblesville, IN – On November 16, 2018 at approximately 9:27 p.m., police officers from the Noblesville Police Department and firefighters from the Noblesville Fire Department responded to Grace Church (5504 E. 146th Street, Noblesville) in reference to a complaint of a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle into the water.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appears the driver of a 2012 Nissan Versa was traveling eastbound in the parking lot and for some unknown reason veered to the right (south) and drove into a pond located on the south side of the parking lot. NPD officers and a Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene shortly after the call and four (4) officers immediately entered the water in an effort to rescue the driver. Upon entering the water, the officers worked their way to the vehicle and assisted the driver out of the vehicle. Firefighters from NFD then assisted the officers and the driver back to the shore.

The driver of the vehicle is identified as Melissa Purpura, 34, of Noblesville. Purpura was transported by ground ambulance to Riverview Health (Noblesville) and was treated for symptoms of hypothermia. Purpura is expected to be released. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The officers that entered the water are identified as Sgt. Jordan Granger, Patrolmen Matthew Johnston & Steven Meyer from the Noblesville Police Department as well as Deputy Travis Petrie from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. Granger, Johnston & Meyer were transported to St. Vincent (Carmel) and Petrie to Riverview Health for symptoms of hypothermia. All officers are expected to be released.

The crash is still under investigation.
