Newberry Police Department Investigates Fatal Accident 
Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the City of Newberry Police Department and with assistance of the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a pedestrian versus motor vehicle collision that occurred on Monday, November 19, 2018 at approximately 8:40 p.m. at 367 Wilson Road in Newberry, Newberry County. Coroner Laura Kneece has identified the pedestrian as 68 year old, Yogeshbhai Patel of Newberry.
On Monday night at approximately 8:40 p.m., officers with the Newberry Police Department and Newberry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a pedestrian that was struck by a moving vehicle while crossing Wilson Road near the Country Peddler.
Robert Holland Epting, 51, of Prosperity was traveling East on U.S. Highway 76 (Wilson Road), when Patel stepped into the lane of traffic and was struck by Holland’s vehicle.
An autopsy was performed this morning, November 20, 2018. It has been concluded that Mr. Patel died of blunt force trauma of head and neck. The manner has been determined to be an accident.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Newberry Police Department.
