On 11/24/2018, at about 9:31 PM, Novato Police Officers responded to Lark Ct, Novato on the report of a victim suffering from a single stab wound.  The victim had just parked his vehicle when a suspect unknown to him approached him and stabbed him for no apparent reason.  The victim had non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Marin General Hospital.
 
Responding officers established a perimeter and contacted several witnesses who provided a very thorough description of the suspect and a direction where he was last seen.  Several minutes after the initial attack, the Novato Police received a call from a concerned citizen who located a male subject that was not wearing much clothing on Taft Court near Arroyo Avichi Park.  This is less than a 1/2 mile from where the original attack occurred.  The description also matched that of the suspect wanted for the stabbing.  Prior to officers arriving, the suspect fled back towards Lark Ct where he was confronted by officers who were still on scene.  After a short foot pursuit, Diego Menendez-Magana was taken into custody.
 
After Menendez-Magana was positivity identified by witnesses as the suspect in the stabbing, he was booked into Marin County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, being under the influence of a controlled substance, delaying and obstructing a police officer and providing a false name to law enforcement.
 
All evidence indicates that this was a random act of violence.  The Novato Police Department would like to thank all of the concerned citizens that assisted with the successful apprehension of Menendez-Magana.  We would also like to thank the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, who assisted with the investigation.
