The National Weather Service has issued a COASTAL FLOOD WARNING for tonight’s high tide
Tides forecasted to be 3 to 4 feet above astronomical tides tonight. Residents in low-lying costal areas should move their cars out of flood prone areas. Some low-lying roads like Canal Road will become impassable during the overnight high tide at approximately 1:45am. Conditions will be similar to those from the flooding on October 27th 2018.
COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect 2 to locally 3 feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying, vulnerable areas. This will result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays.
SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 3 to 5 feet will result in beach erosion with minor damage possible to shoreline structures possible. Waves may exacerbate flooding of shoreline roads and adjacent properties.
TIMING...Minor to moderate coastal flooding around the times of high tide tonight at 1:45am.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...A Coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is expected or occurring. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
