Holiday Package Theft Enforcement
Holiday Package Theft Enforcement
The Morgan Hill Police Department has begun its annual bait package operation for the holiday season. MHPD will deploy packages on random doorsteps equipped with GPS trackers and motion sensors to locate and arrest people stealing them.
We have all seen them caught on camera – thieves who walk up and take packages off the porch before the homeowners even realize they have been delivered. With more and more holiday purchases now made online, this is a problem that will continue to grow if nothing is done. Morgan Hill residents can protect themselves by making sure there’s nothing for thieves to steal. Here’s a few tips to fend off those porch pillagers;
• Take advantage of safe pickup site like “Amazon Locker.”
• Request a signature at delivery or have a friendly neighbor pick up your package.
• Make sure you’re set up for delivery alerts, so you know when your package has arrived.
• If allowed, use your work address rather than your home for deliveries.
• Doorbell and security cameras may not deter all thieves, but they can capture footage that may help police.
The Morgan Hill Police Department will continue our bait package operation throughout the holiday season. We are committed to preventing thefts and arresting the thieves when they strike. If you see a suspicious person in your neighborhood, call the police immediately. Please provide our dispatchers with suspect descriptions, license plate information and direction of travel. Working together we can keep these thieves out of Morgan Hill.
