Location: Joslyn Center, 1601 N. Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
On December 27th, 1993, just after 11:00 p.m., Manhattan Beach Police Officer Martin Ganz conducted a traffic stop in the Manhattan Village Mall for a vehicle code violation. When Officer Ganz approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Roger Hoan Brady, shot Officer Ganz multiple times. After murdering Officer Ganz, Brady got back into his vehicle and fled. Unbeknownst to Officer Ganz, Brady was on his way to commit a robbery at the Ralph’s market. After killing another victim in Oregon, Brady would later be caught and is currently on death row. This night would forever change the Ganz family, the Manhattan Beach Police Department and the City of Manhattan Beach.
On Thursday, December 27th, 2018, the Manhattan Beach Police Department will host a 25th anniversary remembrance ceremony for Officer Martin Ganz. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Joslyn Center located at 1601 N. Valley Drive in Manhattan Beach.
As we honor the memory of Officer Ganz, we invite Manhattan Beach residents and members of our neighboring communities to join us as we reflect on Officer Ganz and the ultimate sacrifice he gave. This ceremony is open to the public.
