INCIDENT: Deal Police Conduct Supplementary DWI Patrols in November resulting in 10 arrests
NARRATIVE:
During the month of November officers from the Deal Police Department conducted supplemental patrols targeting drivers who are under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. Officers worked a total of 121 hours in overtime patrols resulting in the arrests of ten adults. Seven of the arrests were for driving while intoxicated, two were for possession of controlled dangerous substances and one was for hindering apprehension. Officers made a total of 139 motor vehicle stops during this detail and issued 75 summonses. The Deal Police Department will continue this effort during the month of December, taking part in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. This will begin December 7, 2018 and continue through January 1, 2019.
The November patrols were funded by the New Jersey Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund and the December “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is federally funded through a grant. Last year, 20% of all motor vehicle fatalities in New Jersey were alcohol-related. Nationally, more than 10,000 people die each year in drunk driving crashes. Please do not drink and drive and always have a plan to get home safe.
