On 12/8/2018, at approximately 2100 hours, the Sebastopol Police Department received a report of a possible active shooter en route to the Hopmonk Tavern. The initial report by the caller indicated that the subject was armed with a handgun and was on the way to Sebastopol from Santa Rosa.
Officers immediately responded to the Hopmonk Tavern, and located the subject in the parking lot. Upon contact with one of the responding officers, the subject began to physically resist. During the struggle, the subject produced what appeared to be a black handgun. The officer was able to subdue and disarm her. The firearm was determined to be a BB gun. The subject was then taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of criminal threats, resisting a peace officer, and brandishing a replica firearm.
It was later determined that the 35-year-old female had not chosen the Hopmonk Tavern for any specific reason, nor had she targeted any specific persons at the Hopmonk Tavern. It was also later determined that her intention was to induce a "suicide by cop".
