Officer-Involved Shooting
On Sunday, December 9, 2018, at approximately 8:00 PM, an officer-involved shooting occurred in the Ralph’s Market parking lot located at 1770 Carson Street.
At approximately 7:53 PM, Torrance Police Officers were patrolling in the area of 220th Street and Western Avenue when they were flagged down by a subject. The individual explained an unknown suspect stole his vehicle two days prior, and that he just observed his vehicle being driven in the area of Carson Street and Western Avenue.
Torrance Police Officers checked the area and ultimately located the suspected stolen vehicle in the Ralph’s parking lot. Upon approaching the vehicle to conduct their investigation, Officers were met by an adult male who was armed with a rifle, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.
Officers performed life-saving measures upon extracting the subject from the vehicle; however, the subject succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the subject is pending confirmation by investigators, as well as notification to the next of kin.

This investigation is being conducted under the command of Torrance Police Captain Mark Underwood of the Special Operations Bureau with the assistance of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who is reviewing this incident as is routine for all officer involved shootings.
