Flood Watch until 06:00PM Saturday

A deep low pressure system over the Southern Plains will push through the region Saturday bringing widespread rain to the region later tonight through Saturday. Unusually strong and moist southerly flow ahead of this system will bring periods of moderate to heavy rain Friday into Friday night. This combined with continued snow melt may produce flooding across western North Carolina, mainly along and east of the Blue Ridge mountains. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of piedmont North Carolina and western North Carolina, including the following areas, in piedmont North Carolina, Alexander, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Davie, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Union. In western North Carolina, Avery, Buncombe, Burke Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk, Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, Henderson, McDowell Mountains, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, Southern Jackson, and Transylvania.

* Periods of moderate to heavy rain combined with snow melt. Storm totals of 1.5 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts are possible.

* Minor to moderate flooding of streams to main stem rivers are possible. Minor roadway flooding is also possible, especially across areas with an extensive snow pack.
