On Thursday morning, December 13, 2018 at 7:03 AM, West Covina Police Dispatch received calls of a vehicle vs pedestrian collision at the intersection of Sunset Avenue at Fairgrove Avenue, West Covina.
Officers arriving found two pedestrians injured from the incident.
Preliminary investigation suggests that a blue 2018 Chevy Cruze driven by 27 year old female was travelling east on Fairgrove and began turning left (north) onto Sunset Avenue. The two pedestrians had just began walking westbound across Sunset Avenue in the north crosswalk when they were struck by the vehicle. The male victim, 79 from La Puente and his wife, 72 were transported to USC Medical Center for their injuries. The male was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital. The female victim suffered moderate injuries and is expected to recover. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigating officers.
The intersection of Sunset and Fairgrove was shut down for several hours during the investigation.
