Press Release: Attempted Residential Burglar/Police Impersonator Arrested

LOCATION: 30-block Ede Ln.

SUSPECT: Charles Whittington, 66-year-old, San Jose transient

On December 7, 2018, at 10:45 P.M., Milpitas Police officers responded to an in-progress residential burglary at the 30-block of Ede Ln. The officers arrived within 2 minutes of the call and met with residents who reported a man had attempted to enter their house by kicking in their front door while identifying himself as a police officer. Some of the family members confronted the man and he fled the area, being chased by several other family members. Officers began running down the street, after the man, and with the help of the family they were able to locate him in a business complex. The man was taken into custody several blocks away, from victim’s residence, without further incident. A search of the man revealed he was in possession of methamphetamines and narcotic paraphernalia.

The man was identified as, Charles Whittington, a 66-year-old, San Jose transient. Whittington was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted burglary, impersonating police, possession of methamphetamine and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
