Threat against New Hope Solebury School District
Investigation Update Release: December 21, 2018 at 4:05PM

On December 20, 2018 at 6:45PM the New Hope Borough and Solebury Township Police Departments received information from a student of New Hope Solebury School District involving a possible threat towards the school.

The investigation involving this threat shows that a phone call was received by a student indicating a threat of violence towards the school and students. This threat came from an unknown male who advised “that your school is going to get shot up tomorrow”.

Solebury Township and New Hope Borough Police Departments immediately took measures to ensure the safety of the students and staff at the district. NHS School District was notified of the threat and updated. It was determined by the district that all district schools would close on December 21, 2018 pending any further information.

During the course of the initial investigation STPD and NHPD determined at the time that the threat was not considered credible but in an abundance of caution took action.

This matter was investigated by members of the following agencies Solebury Township Police, New Hope Borough Police, F.B.I Fort Washington, PA Field Office and F.B.I Nashville, TN Field Office.
An exhaustive investigation was conducted throughout the evening of December 20, 2018 through Friday December 21, 2018.

At approximately 3:30PM it was determined that this threat was made by a juvenile male from the state of Tennessee. The investigation shows that this threat is determined to be an “ill-advised prank” and at no time posed a direct threat to the school district.

The appropriate authorities in Tennessee have been advised and we will work with them to determine the appropriate outcome.

Again, the safety and security of the NHS School District and New Hope Solebury Community is a top priority of both Solebury Township Police and New Hope Borough Police Department’s. We thank you for your patience during this time!



UPDATE: December 21, 2018

This matter is still under investigation at this time we believe there is no credible threat to the school district and or students involving this specific threat that was made.

We have been advised that New Hope Solebury School District will be closing the schools today as this police investigation continues.

The investigation involving this threat indicates that a phone call was received by a student indicating a threat of violence towards the school and students. At this time the threat is not considered credible but in an abundance of caution we are taking action.

This is an ongoing fluid investigation. Further details in regards to this matter will be released when available.

The safety and security of New Hope Solebury School District is Solebury Township and New Hope Borough Police Departments top priority. Additional officers from both police departments will be present at all New Hope Solebury Schools.
