Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in Salida

Salida, CA – A multi-agency investigation is currently underway for an officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon in the 5300 block Stonehart Lane in the community of Salida.
At about 2:27 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 5300 block Stonehart Lane in regards to a family fight involving 31 year old Andrew Haro.
Two deputies responded to the call and were told Andrew was inside a bedroom and refusing to come out. Deputies entered the bedroom and found Andrew inside armed with a knife. Andrew confronted Deputies with the knife and was non-compliant. He refused to follow orders and directions being given to him by deputies. One of the deputies fired his handgun at Andrew, striking him several times.
Once Andrew was no longer armed with the knife, deputies were able to detain him, begin first aid, and request medical assistance. Andrew was transported to a Modesto hospital for medical care and is currently listed in stable condition. Once released, Andrew will be booked on a parole hold. Further charges may be later added at the conclusion of the investigation
The two deputies who were on scene at the time were not injured during the incident.
Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this officer-involved shooting. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident.
