Advisory

Message from Port Authority regarding World Trade Center PATH:

Starting Saturday, January 5, PATH’s World Trade Center Station will be closed on weekends for the next two years – except for major holiday weekends – to replace equipment and rebuild tunnels severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The station will close at 12:01 a.m. on Saturdays and reopen the following Monday at 5 a.m. after each weekend of work, through the end of December 2020.

During repairs, which include replacing PATH’s tracks, third rail, electrical, signal and communications infrastructure in the tunnels below the Hudson River, PATH weekend service to World Trade Center will terminate at the Exchange Place Station.

Free transfers for ferry service to and from Brookfield Place Terminal in New York City will be available for affected customers at the nearby Harborside Ferry Landing in Jersey City. Weekend ferry service will run each Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Service on the Journal Square-33rd Street line via Hoboken will follow a regular weekend schedule, with additional service provided during the overnight hours when the ferry is not in operation.

For a complete list of travel information and ferry schedules during the weekend outages, customers are asked to visitwww.panynj.gov/StayOnTrack or download the RidePATH app for train and ferry schedules and updates.

Riders exiting at Exchange Place will receive round-trip ferry transfer tickets from PATH representatives. After leaving the ferry, connection to the New York subway system is available via Brookfield Place. For customers originating at Exchange Place, they will be required to pay their usual PATH fare by entering Exchange Place Station to receive a round-trip ferry transfer ticket before proceeding to the ferry.

Customers starting from World Trade Center will be required to pay their usual PATH fare by entering the WTC station to receive a ferry transfer ticket from a PATH representative, before proceeding to the ferry. Upon arrival in Jersey City, riders will present the remaining portion of the ticket to a PATH representative for entrance to the Exchange Place Station.

Ferries will operate on a schedule timed to coincide with train arrivals at Exchange Place. For PATH customers returning to New Jersey, ferry representatives will collect the unused portion of the ferry transfer ticket for service back to Exchange Place. After disembarking from the ferry, customers can continue on their journey by swiping back into PATH at the Exchange Place Station.

Superstorm Sandy caused massive flooding that decimated vital PATH signal and switch systems in 2012. At the World Trade Center site, corrosive salt water ruined much of the underground electrical and mechanical systems. To keep the system running, PATH initiated weekend closures and service adjustments in 2014.
