Measure A funds allow CVFD to kick off the New Year by hiring 12 new firefighters to better serve Chula Vista.
To kick off the new year, the Chula Vista Fire Department is proud to announce twelve new firefighters funded by the Measure A - half cent sales tax. The new firefighters will increase staffing from three firefighters to four firefighters on fire engines across the City. The new staffing officially kicked off January 4, and means that units staffed with four firefighters now meets the National Standard. A “hands on” timed study performed by the Chula Vista Fire Department verifies that a fire crew staffed with four firefighters will deploy a hose line to a residential fire in two minutes thirty seconds. A fire crew made of three firefighters will take six minutes to complete the same task. In addition, the new staffing will reduce “time on task” allowing our emergency units to return to available status sooner than before. This avoids the need for units stationed further away to travel longer distances just to fill the gaps. The sooner units are available, the better the capability to respond to emergencies in their own jurisdiction – which helps to reduce response times. Thank you to Chula Vista tax payers and supporters of Measure A. Together, we are making a difference!
Stay Fire Safe.
