**Update**

We are asking the residents in the area of Beachmont Terrace, Oak Place, Oak Ridge and Evergreen Drive to please check any security camera footage they may have from the early morning hours of 01/04/2019. Specifically between the hours of 2:30 am and 4:00 am. North Caldwell Police is looking for any video footage of a light colored Chrysler 300 vehicle with a male occupant wearing a ski mask attempting to burglarize auto mobiles. Any video footage that may have this  suspicious person and/or vehicle, please contact the North Caldwell Police Detective Bureau at 973-228-6428.  As a reminder , please lock all car doors, leave on ample out side lighting and never leave keys or personal belongings in vehicles.

As the seasons change and darkness falls much earlier in the evening, police are advising residents to lock their vehicles and not to leave engines running. Residents should take the following precautions:

1.Leave enough lights on to illuminate the exterior of your home and driveway areas.
2.Report suspicious activity, people and strange cars to the Police. 3.Keep an eye on your neighbors’ property and vehicles.
4.Park vehicles inside garages when possible.
5.If you must leave cars parked in your driveway, make sure that they are locked with alarms set, and that the keys are in a secure location inside your home - Never leave your keys inside your vehicle for any reason.
6. Do not leave dealer supplied "Valet Keys" in your glove compartment or anywhere inside your vehicle.
7. Do not leave valuables or anything containing personal information inside vehicles.
8. Lastly, NEVER leave vehicles running for any reason while unattended. Thieves are known to drive through neighborhoods looking for vehicles left running while warming up.
