The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

December 19th
1509 Hours: Officer Hernandez responded to the 36000 block of Cedar Boulevard to investigate a possible package theft. A male subject attempted to take a package from a residential front porch, but was confronted by the resident and fled. Officers searched the area, located a male who was identified by the victim as the suspect in question and ultimately arrested for battery. The 47-year-old male out of Union City was booked into Fremont Jail.

2121 to 2227 Hours: Officers responded to the 5600 block of Mowry Avenue and investigated three burglaries from vehicles during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicles by shattering windows to steal a purse, a backpack and a laptop. One witness described a suspect vehicle as a silver Mercedes sedan.

December 20th
0723 Hours: Officer Riddles responded to a business in the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard and investigated a burglary that had occurred sometime overnight.

0937 Hours: Officer Pacheco responded to a business in the 5700 block of Mowry School Road and investigated a burglary that had occurred sometime overnight.

1005 Hours: Officer Rivera responded to a business in the 5400 block of Central Avenue and investigated a burglary that had occurred sometime overnight.

2024 to 2030 Hours: Officers responded to the 3100 block of Newpark Mall Road and investigated two burglaries from vehicles that had been parked next to each other during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicles by shattering windows in an attempt to steal property. A suspect vehicle description was obtained as a silver Mercedes sedan with a sun roof, tinted windows and chrome wheels.

2120 Hours: Officer Jackman responded to the 500 block of Newpark Mall Road to investigate a Grab and Run Theft of clothing that had occurred over an hour earlier. The suspect was described as an African American Male Adult with a white hat, red jacket, blue jeans, and red and blue Nike shoes. The suspect vehicle was described as a Silver Lincoln Navigator without license plates.



December 21st
0004 Hours: Officers responded to the area of Thornton Avenue east of Cedar Boulevard for a reported disturbance in the roadway involving several subjects. They arrived to find a vehicle blocking one of the lanes of traffic with five subjects involved in a disturbance. Three of the subjects were intoxicated to the point they were unable to care for themselves and one had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Officer Slavazza ultimately arrested two 22-year-old females out of Hayward and a 23-year-old male out of Tracy for being too inebriated to care for themselves or others. They were booked into Santa Rita Jail. A fourth subject, a 23-year-old male out of Hayward, was arrested for his outstanding warrant, cited and released.

1450 to 1455 Hours: Officers responded to the 35100 block of Newark Boulevard and 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue and investigated two burglaries from vehicles during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicles by shattering windows to steal a suitcase and duffel bag.

1921 Hours: Officer Lenz responded to the 5400 block of Thornton Avenue and investigated the theft of a white 1998 Chevy Astro minivan.

2140 Hours: Officers responded to the 400 block of Newpark Mall Road to investigate a disturbance, ultimately arresting a 47-year-old female out of Oakland for her outstanding felony warrant. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.


December 22nd
1351 Hours: Officer Taylor contacted and arrested a 48-year-old male out of San Jose for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was cited and released.

1821 Hours: Officers responded to a business in the 5000 block of Jarvis Avenue and investigated a report of a robbery with a knife. The suspect, who was last seen on foot, was described as an Asian or Polynesian Male Adult, approximately 20 – 30 years old with a large build.


December 23rd
1407 Hours: Officer Jackman responded to the 35100 block of Newark Boulevard and investigated a burglary from a vehicle during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicle by shattering a window to steal a an iPad and bag.

2102 Hours: Officer Palacio contacted and arrested a 52-year-old male out of Newark for an interlock device violation. He was cited and released.


December 24th
0712 Hours: Officer Riddles responded to the 37000 block of Locust Street and investigated a burglary from a vehicle during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicle sometime overnight by forcing the door lock in order to steal tools.

0958 Hours: Officers responded to the 36000 block of La Salle Drive to investigate a reported disturbance. Officers contacted the involved parties, conducted a search pursuant to Parole terms and arrested a 40-year-old male out of Newark for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools and violating the terms of his Parole. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

1102 Hours: Officers responded to the 39000 block of Eureka Drive to investigate a reported trespassing. Officer Taylor contacted the involved party, conducted a search pursuant to Probation terms and arrested a 28-year-old transient male for possession of drug paraphernalia and violating the terms of his Probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.


December 25th
0941 Hours: Officer Wallace responded to the 8200 block of Gateway Boulevard and investigated a burglary from a vehicle during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicle sometime overnight by shattering a window to steal a hiking backpack.

2028 Hours: Officers responded to the 7000 block of Inverness Drive, investigated a reported disturbance and accepted a private person’s arrest of a 46-year-old male out of Van Nuys for battery. He was booked into Fremont Jail.


December 26th
0006 Hours: Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 61-year-old male transient out of Newark for his felony, no bail warrant. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1139 Hours: Officer Pacheco responded to the 37000 block of Magnolia Street and investigated the theft of a green 1999 Honda Accord.

1143 Hours: Officer Hernandez contacted a 27-year-old male out of Newark to conduct a search pursuant to the terms of his Probation, but the subject ran from Officer Hernandez. The subject was apprehended after a brief foot chase and arrested for resisting, delaying, obstructing a police officer. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

1519 Hours: Officer Wallace responded to the 6000 block of Rockrose Drive and investigated the overnight theft of a maroon 1995 Dodge Ram truck.


December 27th
0033 Hours: Officer D. Johnson responded to the 6000 block of Overlake Place and investigated a burglary from a vehicle during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicle sometime overnight by shattering a window to steal a purse.

0122 Hours: Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 27-year-old male transient out of Newark for his outstanding warrant. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

0553 and 0729 Hours: Officers responded to the 39100 block of Cedar Boulevard and 5900 block of Mowry Avenue and investigated two burglaries from vehicles during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicles by shattering windows to steal tools.

1023 Hours: Officer Pacheco contacted and arrested a 58-year-old male transient out of Newark for violating the Stay-away terms of his Probation. He was booked into Santa Jail.

1048 and 1233 Hours: Officers responded to the 35000 block of Lido Boulevard and 6500 block of Dairy Avenue and investigated two burglaries from vehicles during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicles by shattering windows to steal backpacks, a laptop, wallet and tools.

1334 Hours: Officers responded to the 8400 block of Central Avenue for a report of a subject passed out, contacted a 24-year-old female out of Newark and arrested the female for being too inebriated to care for herself or others. She was booked into Fremont Jail.


December 28th
0107 Hours: Officers responded to the 39100 block of Cedar Boulevard on a report of subject passed out in his vehicle. They contacted a 43-year-old transient male and arrested the male for being too inebriated to care for himself or others. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

0228 Hours: Officer Losier checked on an occupied vehicle at the corner of Edgewater Drive and Severn Drive. Officer Losier contacted the occupant who was hunched over the steering wheel. During this time, he observed a baggie contacting suspected methamphetamine in plain view. The 61-year-old male out of Newark was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

0946 Hours: Officers Riddles and Pacheco along with their team conducted a Probation Search at a residence on the 7000 block of Arrowhead Place ultimately arresting a 33-year-old female out of Newark for her felony warrant and a 49-year-old male out of Newark for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. They were booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1155 Hours: Officer Pacheco responded to the 6000 block of Overlake Place and investigated a theft from a storage unit that had occurred sometime over the previous week.


December 29th
1552 Hours: Officer Damewood contacted a 33-year-old female out of Newark and arrested her for her felony warrant. She was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

2204 Hours: Sergeant Mapes contacted and arrested a 53-year-old male out of Newark for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was cited and released.


December 30th
0011 Hours: Officer Herbert responded to a disturbance and arrested a 41-year-old male out of Newark for domestic battery. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

0732 Hours: NPD Officers responded to the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Joaquin Murieta Avenue on a report of a male subject, inside a vehicle, slumped over the steering wheel. Officer Swadener arrived on scene and found a 22-year-old male out of Newark sleeping in the driver’s seat. The vehicle’s transmission was in “Drive”, and the vehicle was resting against the rear bumper of a parked vehicle. The subject was arrested for DUI and booked into Fremont Jail.

0826 Hours: Officer Hunter responded to the 5800 block of Smith Avenue and investigated the overnight theft of a silver 2001 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck.

0955 Hours: Officer Taylor responded to the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard and investigated a burglary from a vehicle during which suspect(s) gained access into the locked vehicle by shattering a window to steal luggage.

1034 Hours: Officer Hunter responded to the 5000 block of Thornton Avenue and investigated a theft from a business. The suspects were described as two Hispanic Male Adults and an African American Male Adult in a gray Saturn SUV with “Hanless” paper plates. Investigation is ongoing.

1337 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 53-year-old male out of Newark for his outstanding warrant. He was cited and released.


December 31st
0344 Hours: Officers responded to the area of Thornton Avenue and Sycamore Street on a report of a DUI driver. The Reporting Party followed the suspected DUI driver as officers continued to respond. Officer Lenz subsequently arrested the driver, a 27-year-old male out of San Jose, for DUI. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

1922 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance and investigated a domestic assault.

2246 Hours: Officers responded to the 5000 block of Forbes Drive for a report of residential alarm activation. Officers located a broken window, cleared the home interior for the resident and investigated the attempted burglary.

2250 Hours: Officer D. Johnson responded to the area of Linden Court and Locust Street and investigated a reported Hit and Run collision.
