Winter Storm Watch until 06:00PM Saturday
A winter storm system will develop over the Plains on Friday and shift northeast across the region Friday evening, through much of Saturday. Snow is expected to overspread much of central Illinois Friday night, with a mixture of freezing rain and snow possible south of a Jacksonville to Danville line and north of I-70, for Friday night into Saturday morning. Colder air will filter in from the north during the day Saturday, changing the mixed precipitation over to snow over the southern part of the watch area. Total snowfall accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are possible along and north of a Jacksonville to Danville line. Between one tenth and one quarter inch of ice are possible over the southern portions of the watch area, followed by 2 to 4 inches of snow. In addition to the precipitation hazards, north to northeast winds will gust up to 35 mph on Saturday, contributing to reduced visibility and blowing snow.
