Winter Weather Advisory: Here’s How the Winter Storm Warning Affects St. Peters
Winter weather is expected in our area after midnight tonight and into the day on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. The winter warning comes with some unique challenges that could impact our snow and ice removal efforts and result in difficult driving conditions.
A long rainfall is expected before we receive any ice or snow with this event. When this happens, our Snow and Ice Removal Team cannot pre-treat the roads because the rain will wash away the chemicals.
The timing and type of storm also is unknown at this time. The rain/snow line is just north of the Metro area. That line could shift and cause a worse storm, or possibly no wintry weather. Driving conditions could worsen suddenly as the storm moves through our area, and it’s difficult to predict exactly when those conditions will change.
The latest information we have is that a long rainfall will turn to ice and then snow, followed by extremely cold temperatures.
In preparation, the City of St. Peters asks that residents avoid parking in the street tonight and Saturday morning to aid with ice and snow removal efforts.
Also, please avoid unnecessary travel during the winter storm warning and take precautions to stay safe this weekend.
