Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas until 1130 PM

Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for...
Greenbrier County in southeastern West Virginia...
Northern Summers County in southeastern West Virginia...
Northern Monroe County in southeastern West Virginia...

* Until 1130 PM EST

* At 824 PM EST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that widespread light to moderate rain with pockets of embedded heavy rain continued to track across the indicated counties. The ground in the area is saturated from recent rainfall and
snow/sleet melt which will result in quick runoff of excessive
rainfall into area creeks, streams, and rivers. Minor flooding can
be expected in low-lying normally flood prone areas as well as
poor drainage areas. In addition, small creeks and streams may
exceed bankful.

Over an inch of rain has already fallen this afternoon west and north
of a Hinton to Alderson line, with additional moderate to heavy rainfall
approaching from the southwest. Minor flooding is likely.

* Some locations that could experience flooding include...
Lewisburg...
White Sulphur Springs...
Ronceverte...
Rainelle...
and Alderson.

Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected within the advisory area.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter.

Instructions:

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
