Alert

Winter Weather Advisory until 12:00PM Tuesday

Arctic air will move into the region Tuesday and Tuesday night and remain in place through Thursday. Highs Tuesday will recover very little from tonight's lows before continuing to fall through the afternoon. Tuesday night lows will drop well below zero and will likely remain below zero Wednesday ahead of another frigged night Wednesday night. Wednesday may be the first time since January 1994 that highs remain below zero in many locations. Low temperatures Wednesday and Thursday morning will be the lowest the region has felt since February 2015 and could break daily records by several degrees. Through this period, winds 10 to 25 mph across the area with gusts to 30 mph will produce wind chills values of 25 to 35 degrees below zero, and 40 degrees below zero is possible in some locations of northwest Ohio. This will cause life threatening cold conditions.

* WHAT...Black ice expected. Dangerously cold wind chills possible. Rapidly falling temperatures will create flash freeze conditions overnight and for the Tuesday morning commute. Residual water on roadways may freeze before drying, which would result in ice on untreated roadways. Wind chills as low as 30 to 35 below zero are possible, with the coldest wind chills as low as 40 below zero possible on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Ohio.

* WHEN...For the Winter Weather Advisory, until noon EST Tuesday. For the Wind Chill Watch, from Tuesday evening through Thursday afternoon.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

* AFFECTED AREAS: LORAIN ... SANDUSKY ... WYANDOT ... WOOD ... OTTAWA ... LUCAS ... ASHLAND ... KNOX ... HANCOCK ... CRAWFORD ... SENECA ... RICHLAND ... MORROW ... MARION ... HURON ... ERIE

Instructions:

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. A Wind Chill Watch means there is the potential for a combination of very cold air and the wind to create dangerously low wind chill values. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. The latest road conditions can be obtained from the Department of Transportation web site.
