Warming Centers Available / Dangerous Cold Temps & Wind Chill
The Village of North Aurora reminds residents to take precautions to stay warm and safe during the the current excessively cold weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning for our area from 6 p.m. tonight, Jan. 29th, through noon on Thursday, Jan. 31. Wind chills of -20 to -30 F are expected today and -50 to -55 F are expected overnight tonight through Thursday morning; with these conditions, frostbite can occur in as little as 5 minutes on exposed skin.

The following are tips to protect yourself and loved ones from cold-related illnesses during this period of extreme weather:
- Know the signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
- Wear proper clothing, including dressing in layers of loose-fitting clothing.
- Make sure body parts most often affected by frostbite are covered in warm, dry clothing. These include your nose, ears, toes, cheeks, chin, and fingers.
- Wear hats, scarves, and mittens or gloves.
- Bring your pets indoors.
- Try to stay indoors as much as possible.
- Check on the elderly, those with illnesses, and others who may need special attention during this time.
If you or someone you know are in need of a warming center during this weather, the North Aurora Police Department is available as a warming center between the hours of 7am and 10pm, Monday through Friday.
