Hazardous Weather Outlook for Delaware County: Arctic air has moved into central Indiana. The National Weather Service has issued a WIND CHILL WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST THURSDAY wind chills as low as 20 to 40 below zero are expected.
Hazards:
Hypothermia is very dangerous. Layer it up, have a charged phone. Check on your neighbors and family. Have a plan and make sure someone else knows where you are and when you are supposed to arrive. Keep in mind that when the human body becomes hypothermic, it causes people to make poor and irrational decisions.
Dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Muncie & Delaware County will implement an Emergency Proclamation that will go in effect at 10:00pm January 29 to 08:00am January 30 restricting roadway travel overnight. Only emergency and and persons traveling for work should be on the roads. Schools and Businesses should implement emergency plans now and monitor weather conditions from the National Weather Service.
The emergency proclamation for the overnight road closure in Muncie and Delaware County (RED) Starts at 2200 and will return to orange at 0800, we will evaluate the need for following overnights each day.
