Refuse Schedule Change due to inclement weather.
Important Information Regarding Waste and Recycling Collection Services for the City of Wayne
Republic Services has made the decision to suspend collection services on Wednesday January 30, 2019 as a result of extremely cold weather coming into the Metro Detroit area.
The latest weather predictions are indicating temperatures with a daytime high of -5 degrees with a low of -15 degrees. This air temperature combined with winds from 20 to 30 mph will create wind chills of -20 degrees plus.
Weather conditions such as the ones predicted can cause permanent injury to our employees when exposed for extended periods of time. It is with the concern of the safety of our employees, we have made the decision to suspend services on Wednesday January 30, 2019.
At this time, our plan in place is to run one day behind starting on Thursday January 31, 2019. We will begin with Wednesday routes and work our way forward from that point. We are asking residents to place their trash out on their regular collection day. Even though Republic is running a day behind, we may take the opportunity to pull ahead into the next collection route if at all possible. It is expected to have all collection routes completed by afternoon/evening of Saturday February 2, 2019 (weather /road conditions allowing).
Republic is reminding residents to place carts/items intended for collection in a location that will not interfere with local municipal snow plowing operations. Residents should place carts/items intended for collection in a location that does not interfere with snow plow operations but also can be easily and safely accessed by Republic’s drivers. Please make sure that all items intended for collection can be easily identified and accessed from the curb/street.
For our commercial and roll off customers, Republic reminds everyone to please make sure that front load container and roll off containers are clear of snow piles and can be safely / easily accessed. Please remind snow removal crews to not stockpile snow around the containers. This may cause a delay in service until the container can be safely and easily accessed.
Should you have further questions or need specific information regarding collection operations, please contact the City of Wayne DPW.
