According to meteorologists, temperatures are expected to plunge into the single digits over the next couple days. Please take some precautions to avoid frozen water pipes in your homes:

Turn the heat up higher than you normally would for extreme cold winter temps.

Have someone check on your house if you are away.

Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing, especially if your sinks are on an exterior wall. (If you have small children, be sure to remove any harmful cleaners and household chemicals.)

Secure all water sources that go outside the house (hose bibs, water to garage or pool area).

As previously noted, if you will be away for extended period of time (like heading to Florida for rest of winter ), turn off main water supply in house and drain pipes to prevent damage.

Attic spaces containing water pipes or water sources also have to be heated.

Be cautious of using space heaters for extended period of time or unsupervised
