DATE OF RELEASE: February 5, 2019

On January 27, 2019 at 12:29 AM, West Covina Police Department responded to a shooting that occurred in the 500 block of S. Charvers Avenue in West Covina. When officers arrived, they located one female approximately 30 years old with a gunshot wound to her upper torso. The West Covina Fire Department arrived and transported her to a hospital for treatment. The victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

West Covina Detectives continued to follow up on this case and developed leads that provided potential identities of the suspects. The investigation led detectives to identifying Steven Hernandez, 19 of La Puente and Trevall Jones, 18 of Pomona as suspects in connection with the attempted murder.

On January 30, 2019, Hernandez was arrested without incident in the area of his home in La Puente. On February 1, 2019, Jones was arrested without incident in the area of his home in Pomona.

The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in West Covina Superior Court. The charges filed against Jones were 664PC/187 PC (Attempt Murder), 245 (b) PC (Assault with Deadly Weapon using a semi-automatic firearm) and 246 PC (Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling). The charges filed against Hernandez were 245 (b) PC (Assault with Deadly Weapon using a semi-automatic firearm) and 246 PC (Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling). Bail for both Jones and Hernandez was set at $1,000,000.
