A cold and active weather pattern is expected this weekend. Snow levels are expected to be around 2500 feet early Saturday morning as precipitation begins, but will steadily fall to as low as 500 to 1500 feet by late Saturday and early Sunday. Heavy snow is expected for elevations above 2500 feet Saturday and Sunday, with lighter amounts to as low as 500 feet possible in places.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches above 2500 feet, with localized amounts up to 20 inches across remote higher elevations.

* WHERE...Del Norte Interior and Northern Humboldt Interior County. Highways impacted include Highway 199 and Bald Hills Road, among other rural roadways.

* WHEN...10 PM Friday to 4 PM Sunday.
