Woman's car stolen by man she met via social media

On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, a 28 year old woman was contacted via Facebook by a 19 year old male suspect.  They met in the city of Azusa, where the suspect resides, and drove in the victim's car to an area of the San Gabriel Mountains near Highway 39.  While walking in an area away from the woman's car, the suspect pushed the victim into the San Gabriel River, then subsequntly drove away in the victim's car.   The victim suffered minor injuries in the fall. The woman found a ride back to the Azusa area, where Sheriff's deputies were contacted.  

Detectives assigned to the San Dimas Sheriff's Station investigated and identified a potential suspect.  On February 7, 2019, detectives located the suspect near the victim's vehicle in the 200 block of Vernon Avenue in Azusa.  The suspect was arrested for taking a motor vehicle by force, with bail set at $100,000.  Further details are not available as the investigation is still ongoing.

The Station’s jurisdiction encompasses approximately 276 square miles. In addition to serving the City of San Dimas, the station serves unincorporated communities of Azusa, Covina, Glendora, La Verne, Claremont, Pomona, the Los Angeles County portion of Mt. Baldy, a large portion of the Angeles National Forest (State Route 39), and portions of Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2). The population for these areas is approximately one hundred and five thousand (105,000), nearly sixty sixty-nine thousand (69,000) in the unincorporated areas and more than thirty-six thousand (36,000) in the City of San Dimas.
