2018 Annual Report
On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Red Oak Police Department, I am pleased to present our 2018 Annual Report. Our mission as an organization is to provide outstanding police services, in partnership with the community, to maintain a safe environment that contributes to the quality of life. To measure whether we are achieving this mission, we have four organization performance measures: Crime Rate, Traffic Safety, Timely Service, and Quality of Service.
Crime Rate: The department’s goal is to keep the crime rate below a rolling five year average. Red Oak has received recognition as the #96 safest city in Texas from the National Council on Home Safety and Security and the Dallas Business Journal has ranked Red Oak #14 as the fastest growing city in North Texas.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), through Uniform Crime Reporting, collects crime data from law enforcement agencies across the nation. Homicides, Rapes, Robberies, and Aggravated Assaults are classified as violent crimes, while Burglaries, Larcenies, and Motor Vehicle Thefts are classified as property crimes. Red Oak’s violent crime rate increased 23.53 % in 2018 due to aggravated assaults, while the property crime rate decreased 9.07 % in 2018 with a reduction in every category. Overall, the major crime rate, which consists of violent crimes and property crimes, decreased 7.61 % in 2018.
Traffic Safety: The Red Oak Police Department has a three pronged approach to traffic safety: Enforcement, Education, and Partnership with the community. In 2018, the total number of crashes increased 1.94 %. Crashes with injuries decreased 35.21 % and there were four crashes with four fatalities.
Timely Service: Responding to citizen’s requests for police services is one of our top priorities. The department’s goal is to respond to priority one calls within 5 minutes and all other calls within 8 minutes. In 2018, the average response time to priority one calls was 3:49 minutes, up from 3:42 minutes in 2017. The response time for all other calls for service decreased from 5:41 minutes in 2017 to 5:19 minutes in 2018
Quality of Service: Through quarterly and annual metrics and analytical review and evaluation of processes, we have been able to adjust levels of service provided by the Red Oak Police Department to ensure the highest quality of service and response for our citizens.
We invite you to join us in partnership to keep Red Oak a safe community by participating in one of our many community programs such as Neighborhood Crime Watch, Citizen’s Public Safety Academy program, Citizens on Patrol program, or our National Night Out.
