Beginning the week of February 11^th, utility companies will begin work on the N. Lakeview Avenue as part of the overall reconstruction project taking place this year.  As a result, N. Lakeview Ave. will be closed to Thru Traffic from Chicago Rd. to Main St.  A detour route has been established that routes Thru Traffic from Chicago Rd. onto N. Prospect St. to Main St. then to N. Lakeview Ave.

The utility work is part of the broader reconstruction of N. Lakeview that will be taking place during the first part of 2019.  Starting with this utility work, N. Lakeview from US-12 to the railroad tracks is expected to be closed to traffic and under construction from now until the end of the project, which is anticipated to be complete in August of this year.  As with all construction projects, timelines are subject to weather and contractor schedules.   

The City of Sturgis asks that all motorists please slow down and obey all traffic control devices.  They are in place for the safety of workers and motorists. 

Motorists are asked to please pay special attention to “Thru Traffic” signs.  “Thru Traffic” is considered traffic using the road as part of a longer trip, rather than to reach a destination.  Unless your destination is in the area closed, you are “Thru Traffic” and need to either use the detour or find an alternate route.  If your destination is in the area and you need to use the road, please slow down, obey all barricades and signage, and give the right of way to workers in these areas. 

While this is a significant project and no one likes having their driving routine disrupted, it is unfortunately a necessary part of much-needed street repair work.  The City of Sturgis and all workers in the area thank you for your patience and cooperation.
