Wilmington Police recover stolen vehicle, loaded gun
Wilmington Police recovered a stolen vehicle and a loaded firearm during a traffic stop February 4.
Police observed a vehicle driving erratically, and stopped the vehicle in the 1400 block of North Walnut Street.
One of the officers saw through a window a firearm protruding from the pocket of a rear-seat passenger. That officer quickly secured the loaded firearm and took that individual, a 16-year-old male, into custody without incident. He has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and three charges related to possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was arraigned on those charges and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $50,000 cash-only bail.
Additionally, the driver of the vehicle, a 14-year-old male, was charged with receiving stolen property, disregarding a police officer’s signal, reckless driving and driving without a valid license.
Another passenger, a 14-year-old male, was charged with possession of marijuana.
The vehicle, which had been reported stolen from New Castle County, was turned over to the New Castle County Police Department.
