Crime Alert - Off Campus

Attention Rutgers Community:

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery which was reported to have occurred on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at approximately 9:43 PM. This incident occurred off-campus within a residential building located on Easton Avenue between Ray Street and Senior Street in the city of New Brunswick.

In this incident the victims, who are affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that upon opening the front door of their residence after hearing a knock, they were confronted by four male perpetrators. The perpetrators demanded items of value while displaying a firearm and a sharp object. After receiving property from the victims, the perpetrators fled the area in an unknown direction. The victims were not physically injured as a result of this incident. The NBPD indicated that the perpetrators appeared to have prior knowledge of the victim’s residence and believe this was an isolated incident.

The descriptions of the perpetrators are limited at this time.

The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the NBPD Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.

The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you that you can reduce your chances of being a crime victim by taking reasonable precautions, including:

 Only allow in people who are known to you;
 Keep doors locked when home;
 Always verify who is on the other side of the door before opening it;
 Remain alert and aware of the people and circumstances around you; and
 Immediately report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
