Press Release - Basic Police Academy Testing - August 5th

The Tulare-Kings Basic Peace Officer Academy, at the College of the Sequoias, Hanford Educational Center, is accepting sign-ups for testing for its August 5, 2019 Intensive Academy class. The Intensive Format Class takes place on weekdays and occasionally on Saturday and Sunday. According to College of the Sequoias officials, the Intensive course takes just over five months to complete.
The Tulare-Kings Basic Peace Officer Academy provides all state-required (Peace Officer Standards and Training) training for the persons interested in becoming full-time law enforcement officers in California. To qualify, applicants must possess a High School Diploma or GED and a valid California Driver’s License. Candidates may not have been convicted of a felony or violent misdemeanor.
Interested persons will need to apply for and take one of six upcoming entrance examinations. Examinations begin on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in room E37 at the Hanford Educational Center. The final examination is on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Visalia Campus.
For further information regarding the Tulare-Kings Basic Peace Officer Academy, candidates can go to the website at www.cos.edu/policeacademy or e-mail the Academy at [email protected].
Law enforcement agencies from throughout the state hire students directly from the Academy or shortly after graduation. Academy Director, Chief Jack Amoroso, noted that agencies are looking for bright, energetic people with integrity. However, agencies are not interested in people with long or serious criminal records or a lifestyle of drug use. “On the other hand, a person who fits the profile and can graduate from an academy, has an excellent chance of joining the law enforcement profession.” Amoroso said.
