NARRATIVE:
Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a Hispanic male adult in the city of Artesia.
On Saturday March 9, 2019, at 9:44 PM, deputies from Lakewood Sheriff’s Station responded to the 11800 block of Arkansas Street regarding a call of a gunshot victim. Upon arriving they located the victim in the driveway of a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. It appears he did not live at the location and was shot while walking along the sidewalk and ran into the driveway, where he collapsed.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There is no suspect information and the murder weapon has not been recovered.
Investigators learned an additional shooting occurred approximately 20 minutes earlier, nearby at the corner of Clarkdale Avenue and 168th Street. In this incident, a Hispanic male adult was struck by gunfire. He was driven to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. There is no suspect description on this instance and no weapon has been recovered.
Investigators are in the process of determining whether the two shootings are related.
