Flood Watch until 07:00PM Thursday

A large warm and wet system will pass through the Northland over the next several days. This system will bring warm and rainy conditions which will increase the threat for flooding. The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin, including the following areas, in Minnesota, Carlton and South St. Louis, Central St. Louis, Crow Wing, North Cass, North Itasca, North St. Louis, Northern Aitkin, Northern Cook and Lake, Pine, South Aitkin, South Cass, South Itasca, Southern Cook, and Southern Lake. In Wisconsin, Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Sawyer, and Washburn.

* From Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening

* An extended period of rainfall will begin Wednesday afternoon and last through Thursday evening resulting in 1.0 to 1.5" of total rainfall. Moderate rainfall rates coupled with temperatures in the 40s and snow melt with little to no storage capacity due to the frozen ground will increase the threat for flooding particularly on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

* Street flooding will be the most noticeable impact, but prepare for basement flooding (check your sump pumps) and ice dam backups on roofs. The added weight of the rain soaked snow on roofs may cause them to collapse especially on barns and outbuildings.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BAYFIELD ... NORTH ITASCA ... WASHBURN ... CENTRAL ST. LOUIS ... SOUTH ITASCA ... PINE ... CARLTON/SOUTH ST. LOUIS ... NORTH CASS ... DOUGLAS ... SOUTH CASS ... NORTHERN AITKIN ... SOUTH AITKIN ... PRICE ... NORTHERN COOK/NORTHERN LAKE ... CROW WING ... SAWYER ... SOUTHERN COOK/NORTH SHORE ... IRON ... SOUTHERN LAKE/NORTH SHORE ... BURNETT ... ASHLAND ... NORTH ST. LOUIS
