Flood Watch until 07:00AM Friday

A large warm and wet system will pass through the Northland during the day Wednesday through Thursday night. This system will bring well above freezing temperatures and rainy conditions which will increase the threat for flooding. The biggest flooding concern will be urban/street flooding, particularly in areas of poor drainage due to snow cover. Another dangerous impact from this storm will be the potential for roof collapses due to rain on top of snow pack on area roofs, which will become very heavy if saturated by rainfall. Basement flooding will also be possible, along with roof leaks due to ice dams. The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* Portions of north central Wisconsin and northwest Wisconsin, including the following areas, in north central Wisconsin, Price. In northwest Wisconsin, Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Sawyer, and Washburn.

* From Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning

* An extended period of rainfall will begin Wednesday afternoon and last through Thursday evening resulting in 0.8 to 1.3" of total rainfall. Moderate rainfall rates, coupled with temperatures in the 40s and snow melt with little to no storage capacity due to the frozen ground, will increase the threat for flooding, particularly on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

* Street flooding will be the most noticeable impact, but prepare for basement flooding (check your sump pumps) and ice dam backups on roofs. The added weight of the rain-soaked snow on roofs may cause them to collapse especially on barns and outbuildings.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BAYFIELD ... PRICE ... WASHBURN ... SAWYER ... IRON ... ASHLAND ... BURNETT ... DOUGLAS
